@UofTGuitar is one the leading guitar programs in North America. Students are admitted to Bachelor’s (B.Mus), Masters (M.Mus) and a fully funded doctoral (DMA) degree. 


The University of Toronto was established early in the 19th century and has forged a reputation which situates it consistently among the top-ranked universities in the world. (2019 ranking was 18th globally).

Our undergraduate and master’s programs are tailored to meet the career needs and aspirations of emerging professional with courses with weekly performance classes, guitar ensemble training, flute-guitar masterclass and upper year specialist courses in Fretboard Harmony, History and Literature of the Guitar, and Guitar Pedagogy. The DMA program is one of the strongest anywhere in the world producing graduates who are both elite levels performers and scholars. 

Our graduates have won numerous competitions, established academic guitar programs throughout the Americas, and developed satisfying careers as performers, producers, recording artists, and community leaders.

ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR &

HEAD OF GUITAR STUDIES

Jeffrey McFadden is Head of Guitar Studies and Associate Professor in the Faculty of Music, University of Toronto. A highly sought-after pedagogue and clinician, his students have garnered numerous Canadian and International awards and scholarships. He has worked with students at nearly every major University music program in Canada and many in the USA. He is a prolific arranger and has for many years curated the Royal Conservatory of Music Guitar Series with his colleague Robert Hamilton.

Jeffrey McFadden was the recipient of the 2012 City of Hamilton Arts Award for Music and is the founder and artistic director of the Sauble Beach Guitar Festival.
